Life Drawing Event Schedule in January

Untutored, One-day Long and Short Pose (Sat./Sun.) 

We will have a different model posing every Saturday/ Sunday.

【Materials】
We recommend that you bring your own materials that you are comfortable to work with, such as oil, watercolor, charcoal, pencils and so on. We still provide pencils, erasers and some pieces of paper free of charge. A sketchbook sold for 150 yen. We sell the instructor's recommended paper at cost by piece. Tables, chairs, drawing boards and easels available. If you wish to continue your painting, you can leave your canvas in our atelier.

(A single long pose, 120 min in total)


Two-hour long pose which is good to make a complete work of art. You are also welcome to change a spot and draw from different angles.

Ginsui Kubota Calligraphy Workshop
20th January afternoon

Tutor: Ginsui Kubota
A calligraphy workshop will be held with calligrapher Ginsui Kubota.
Participants will learn the process of turning their favourite characters into a work of art.
The handling of the brush, the balance of margins and expression with a single stroke are Japanese aesthetics that have something in common with art study.
This course can be used as an extension of Japanese painting or art study, or as a review of how to create a new work of art.
Calligrapher Kubota Ginsui (Poetry and Ink Society)
Activities range from solo exhibitions, calligraphy classes, naming calligraphy, nameplates, nameplates and signboards (for sushi restaurants, etc.) to providing calligraphy for Japanese sake, Japanese tea, artists' music videos and books.

Curriculum1⃣Determine the characters you want to write (kanji, hiragana, katakana, alphabet).

2⃣Basic instruction on how to hold the brush, tips on ink pouring and stroke movement. Self-study.

3⃣Instruction on the difference between shodo and shuji, and the importance of margins. Private instruction.

4⃣Self-study towards the finish. Personal tutorials.

5⃣Clear writing on a sheet of calligraphy paper (1 sheet).
Finished by adding the first letter of the name (in place of the Gain) with a vermilion brush pen.

6⃣Photographed with the calligraphy on the hanging scroll.


Afterwards, take a break with Japanese tea and Japanese sweets.

If you have hanki paper, please bring it with you. We will provide you with hanki for practice at 10 yen per sheet and all other necessary tools.

Tutored Still Life/Figure Drawing/Painting Class (Thur. Morning / afternoon)

Full-tutored drawing/painting class. 
Appropriate for all levels. 
There is an instructor from whom you can get as much instruction as you want.
On the morning and evening classes, we have some still life and plaster casts from which you can choose for drawing.
On the afternoon classes we will have Russian models posing for us.

You are welcome to attend one class or more where you could continue working on your drawing/painting.

★When we cancel a class according to our convenience, we will pay you back 3500 JPY.
You are welcome to attend only one session or more.
Receipts will be given to those who pay by monthly fees. No refunds will be given in the event of cancellation as a discount is applied. However, if for some reason we have to cancel, we will refund 2500 yen for the morning session and 3500 yen for the afternoon session per session.

Tutored Still Life Classic/iPad Drawing/Painting Class (Sat. Morning)

This is a full-tutored drawing and iPad class.
Appropriate for all levels, beginners to experienced. 
There is an instructor from whom you can get as much instruction as you want, so feel free to take one or more classes.
We have some still life and plaster casts from which you can choose for drawing. Please bring one or a photo if you have a specific preference.
We don't provide an iPad so please bring your own iPad and pen if you need.
